We have new images from ‘Supergirl’ and, just like with ‘Superman,’ we’re completely smitten with Krypto, the film’s computer-generated pup. Warner Bros. seems to know this, and as you can see in these images, they’ve placed the dog at the center of the film’s plot. Apparently, Krypto is attacked, and Supergirl must find the antidote in less than three days to save her best friend. Because if there’s one thing far more important than saving humanity, it’s saving a dog.
Beyond our canine friend, the ‘Supergirl’ trailer hints at a tone and aesthetic very different from David Corenswet’s film, which, of course, will make the occasional appearance here. Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El seems even more rebellious than we saw her in the final minutes of her cousin’s movie. This reinvention of ‘Supergirl’ is the second installment of the DC Universe envisioned by James Gunn and Peter Safran following the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery—and it may also be the last before the acquisition by Paramount, scheduled for the end of the year if all necessary approvals are secured.
Although the film is no longer directed or written by Gunn himself—but rather by Craig Gillespie, with a screenplay by Ana Nogueira—the truth is that, aesthetically, it has reminded many of another of Gunn’s hits: the Marvel series Guardians of the Galaxy.
New Look at Jason Momoa as Lobo
The trailer also gives us a closer look at the highly anticipated appearance of Lobo, the bounty hunter mercenary who will accompany Supergirl on part of the adventure, played by Jason Momoa. Matthias Schoenaerts will portray the villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills. ‘Supergirl’ hits theaters on June 24 with the bar set quite high, following the $618 million grossed by ‘Superman’ last summer. The main Superman storyline will continue in 2027 with ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ where, in addition to David Corenswet’s return as the lead, Milly Alcock is expected to play a prominent role.
