Following the presentation of Spider-Man: Brand New Day at CinemaCon 2026 as the highlight of the Sony Pictures panel, new and intriguing rumors have emerged in recent hours regarding the film’s plot and an epic battle between Spider-Man, the Punisher, the Hulk, and Jean Grey on the streets of New York.
Although there has been no official confirmation from Sony or Marvel yet, it is now widely accepted that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will portray the mutant Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day: at this point, it would be truly surprising to learn anything different about her character, who is also expected to be one of the protagonists of the X-Men reboot currently in production and set to arrive after Avengers: Secret Wars (in which Sadie Sink herself will return, by the way).
In fact, the famous insider My Time To Shine Hello has upped the ante by revealing the context of one of the film’s most important scenes, which reportedly involves Jean Grey: the scooper claims to have discovered what will lead to the return of the Savage Hulk and why he’ll find himself fighting against Peter Parker and Frank Castle… and yes, you guessed it: according to her sources, it will have to do with Jean’s psychic powers.
Putting some previous rumors about Spider-Man: Brand New Day into context, the insider writes: “Jean Grey will take control of the Hulk and transform him into the Gray Hulk. At that point, the powerful telepath will force him to fight Spider-Man and the Punisher!”
Apparently, when we meet Jean Grey in the MCU, it seems she will already have a particular aptitude for mind control. The reason she would want to force the Hulk to fight Spider-Man and the Punisher remains a mystery, especially since this obviously casts her in a very negative light: thinking back to the TV series Wonder Man (created and co-directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, director of Spider-Man: Brand New Day), perhaps Damage Control is hunting Jean: at which point it’s easy to imagine that the mutant trusts no one and that, as a matter of survival, she’s rightly willing to do anything.
Of course, if confirmed, the decision to introduce Jean Grey into a Spider-Man movie remains quite intriguing (even though the two characters have shared some adventures in the comics), but it’s worth remembering that My Time to Shine Hello is one of the industry’s most authoritative insiders (you’ll all recall her scoops on Deadpool & Wolverine and James Gunn’s Superman, just to name a few); furthermore, the information about Jean Grey has also been shared by journalist Jeff Sneider and other leakers, to the point that by now it seems like an open secret.
It remains to be seen what role the Hand ninjas and the villains Scorpion and Tombstone will play in the film… but things seem particularly dire for Peter Parker this time around! How he’ll manage to pull through, especially with the cataclysms of Avengers: Doomsday looming on the horizon, remains to be seen…
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on July 29. Before then, a sort of prologue centered on Frank Castle will arrive on May 12 on Disney+ thanks to the new Marvel Special film The Punisher: One Last Kill, which will reveal what the vigilante did after escaping from Kingpin’s prison in the post-credits scene of the first season of Daredevil: Resurrection.
