Starting today, the season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again is available exclusively on the on-demand streaming platform, drastically changing the status quo of New York in the Marvel Cinematic Universe…so many fans are wondering, how does it connect to Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Ever since Charlie Cox made his “official” MCU debut in 2021 in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have been hoping for a team-up between Daredevil and Spider-Man. We got a taste of this in Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and on the live-action front, it was a lot of fun to see Matt Murdock offer Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, some legal advice.
Now that the season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again has arrived on Disney+, we can confirm that Spider-Man does NOT appear in the episode. However, with many convinced that the Man Without Fear will instead appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to release in July, is there anything that could connect the two works? Well, it depends on what you consider a “connection.”
Now that Matt Murdock is behind bars, it suddenly seems much more likely that the prison shown in the trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man movie could be the very one where Daredevil is being held. In the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, incidentally, Spidey battles the Hand, a group of ninjas who are usually portrayed as Daredevil’s enemies. The Punisher will also appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the new mayor of New York seen in the trailer is Wilson Fisk’s former assistant—Fisk himself having been exiled from the Big Apple after the season finale. Thus, the connections to the Daredevil saga are numerous and tangible.
Many fans imagine that Spider-Man and Daredevil will meet in prison, with Peter offering Matt a chance to escape and the lawyer refusing—after all, he believes in the law—and remaining behind bars until the third season of Daredevil: Born Again. Some rumors have suggested Daredevil’s appearance in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is expected to show the start of an Incursion, but those who have read the comics know that while Matt was in prison, New York was protected by a “stand-in” Hell’s Kitchen Devil…
In addition, the special film The Punisher: One Last Kill will premiere on Disney+ next week, serving as a bridge between Daredevil: Reborn and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
In short, there are connections between the works, but will they be developed and lead to something concrete? We’ll have to wait and see…
