After debuting in second place last weekend, New Gintama the Movie: Yoshiwara in Flames dropped one spot to third place in its second weekend from February 20 to 22. As the fourth feature film in the Gintama anime franchise, this new film adaptation of the “Yoshiwara in Flames” arc, one of the most popular in Hideaki Sorachi’s original manga, opened in 350 theaters across Japan on February 13.

Thanks to the positive reception of its premiere on Netflix on January 22, the original anime film directed by Shingo Yamashita, Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, began a limited run in 19 theaters in Japan on February 20 and ranked fifth in its first three-day weekend, from Friday to Sunday. According to TWIN ENGINE, the company that co-produced the film, gross revenue for the first four days, from Friday to Monday (which was a national holiday in Japan), reached ¥291,222,700 ($1.87 million) with 148,067 tickets sold. Meanwhile, the film ranked No. 1 in the mini-theater ranking for smaller-scale, independent, and limited-release films.

The screening was originally planned for a limited one-week run from February 20 to 26, but due to this overwhelming box office success, the exhibition period has been extended, with screenings confirmed at eight additional theaters starting February 27. In addition, the music video for the closing theme song, “ray Cosmic Princess Kaguya! Version,” will also be shown after the main film starting February 27. The music video, released on January 31 on the film’s official YouTube channel, has surpassed 6.8 million views at the time of writing.

In its fifth weekend, MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM HATHAWAY: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, the second part of the trilogy adapting Yoshiyuki Tomino’s Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash novel series, dropped two places to sixth. The film’s official website announced that its cumulative box office revenue has already reached ¥2,012,920,440 ($12.8 million) with 1,206,852 tickets sold in the 22 days since its January 30 release.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, which began screening in SCREENX theaters on February 20, climbed back to seventh place in its 32nd weekend. The film’s cumulative domestic box office has now reached ¥39.6 billion ($254 million) with 27.1 million tickets sold.

Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express: Local Train to the Theater, a compilation film of the CG anime short series Milky☆ Subway: The Galactic Limited Express, fell two places from last weekend to tenth in its third weekend, bringing its total to ¥400 million ($2.56 million) with 300,000 tickets sold in 18 days since its release on February 6. Following this success, starting March 6, 75 additional theaters will be added to the current 76, nearly doubling the number of theaters screening the film.

The fifth chapter of Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199, subtitled “Hakunetsu no Ginga Taisen” (translated as “The Incandescent Galactic War”), premiered in 73 theaters on February 20. This latest chapter failed to debut in the top 10, unlike the previous fourth chapter in October 2025, instead ranking at #11. The upcoming sixth chapter, subtitled “Aoi Meikyu” (translated as “The Azure Labyrinth”), is scheduled to premiere in theaters in Japan on June 26, 2026.

Both The Dangers in My Heart: The Movie, a compilation film of the television anime series The Dangers in My Heart, and the live-action film adaptation of Nanao’s BL manga, Jun’ai Joutou! (Pure Love, I Accept the Challenge!), dropped out of the top 10 in their second weekend.
