We saw him in the first official trailer for Masters of the Universe, and expectations are sky high: what can we expect from Jared Leto’s villain Skeletor? Some very interesting previews have just been released, which we want to share with you…
New details have been revealed about Jared Leto‘s portrayal of Skeletor in Masters of the Universe, including the time spent on set and the vocal performance of the Oscar-winning star of 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club.
Jared Leto’s star status has recently been called into question after starring in high-budget flops such as Morbius and TRON: Ares, but in Masters of the Universe, the star will be hidden behind a computer-generated skull. Until now, we didn’t know exactly how much time Jared Leto spent on the set of Masters of the Universe, but thanks to the latest issue of Empire, we learn that the actor literally wore the costume of the evil Skeletor and did not limit himself to a voice acting role.
In an excerpt from the magazine shared by the fan site He-Mania, we read that “although Leto physically plays the character, the actor is practically invisible: his body is wrapped in a blue muscle suit and his face is entirely replaced by a computer-generated animated skull.” In addition to hiding under Skeletor’s iconic appearance, Jared Leto will obviously lend his voice to the character. However, he will not emulate the high-pitched vocal performance of legendary actor Alan Oppenheimer in the 1980s animated series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe”; Instead, Jared Leto will follow in the footsteps of Frank Langella’s Skeletor in the 1987 film “Masters of the Universe.”
On that occasion, the actor offered a Shakespearean-inspired performance that the Joker star will emulate in Travis Knight’s reboot: “And although Jared Leto’s vocalization avoids reproducing the memorable nasal lament of the original cartoon Skeletor (voiced by Alan Oppenheimer),” reads the excerpt, “you’ll struggle to recognize his voice, as he has adopted a dry, Shakespearean tone.”
Masters of the Universe will be released in Italy on June 4. Recently, the director promised that Jared Leto’s Skeletor will be the symbol of the toxic male.
