Why Is the Girigo App So Hard to Give Up in ‘If Wishes Could Kill?’

In the K-drama If Wishes Could Kill, the characters find themselves in serious trouble because of an app called Girigo. This is no ordinary app. Girigo cannot be downloaded like most apps and is typically shared via a link before installation. Girigo is a deadly app. A person’s wishes can come true through it, but there’s a very high price to pay. The characters who use it must face a series of disasters that are hard to resolve. Despite this, the app is surprisingly hard to give up. So, what’s the reason? Let’s take a look at the explanation below!

Every character has a problem they want to solve quickly

Girigo is an app that can grant wishes. Someone with a wish can make it come true by recording a video of themselves stating their wish while holding a piece of paper with their name and date of birth written on it.

When it comes to making wishes, each character naturally has something different to ask for. Take Choi Hyeong Wook (Lee Hyo Je), for example. He’s so frustrated that his math grades are always low that he impulsively wishes for a perfect score on his practice test. Then there’s Kim Geon Woo (Baek Sun Ho), who tries asking for his girlfriend Yoo Se Ah’s (Jeon So Young) weekend practice to be canceled. They feel they need a miracle to help them get out of their problems.

    The results were immediately apparent

Choi Hyeong Wook was overjoyed when his wish actually came true after he started using the Girigo app. He shared the app with his friends so they could follow in his footsteps. Unexpectedly, he ended up dying when the timer on the app ran out. Kim Geon Woo’s wish also came true. Yoo Se Ah didn’t end up practicing over the weekend due to Choi Hyeong Wook’s sudden death. Next, Kim Geon Woo became the target to lose his life. The man was severely injured after being attacked by an invisible creature.

Yoo Se Ah recklessly made a wish for Kim Geon Woo to get better immediately. She realized her life was next on the line. However, she didn’t regret her decision because she didn’t want to lose the person she loved. She had seen for herself how the Girigo app truly delivered real results. So, she was willing to sacrifice her life as long as she could save Kim Geon Woo.

    Curiosity grows

Girigo is an app that can’t be hacked. Even Kang Ha Joon (Hyeon Woo Seok), who is known for his IT skills, can’t delete or reset the app. The timer keeps running even after the user makes a request and it’s successfully granted. Haetsal (Jeon So Nee), who is none other than Kang Ha Joon’s older sister, possesses a sixth sense. Haetsal informs them that Yoo Se Ah and her friends are dealing with an evil spirit. Girigo serves as the medium through which the curse created by that evil spirit spreads. With Haetsal’s help, Yoo Se Ah is able to temporarily free herself from the curse.

It doesn’t make sense, but their curiosity grows even stronger after experiencing its effects. They must find out how the app was created in the first place so that the curse can be broken and no more victims are claimed. Although the Girigo app causes many problems, it turns out it’s not easy to give it up. The three reasons above are strong factors preventing the app from being immediately discarded, even though it has proven to be dangerous.
