Prime Minister Min (Noh Sang Hyun) is one of the people closest to Seong Hui Ju (IU) in the K-drama Perfect Crown. The two have known each other for quite some time, as they are both graduates of the Korean Royal Academy. During their school days, Prime Minister Min was one of the few people who had a good relationship with Seong Hui Ju.
What Hui Ju didn’t realize was that Min Jung Woo also harbored feelings for her. However, he never dared to confess. Until one day, he tried to propose to Seong Hui Ju. Unfortunately, without a second thought, she immediately rejected him. What could be the reason behind her rejection?
Prime Minister Min accidentally learned of Hui Ju’s plan for a contract marriage with Crown Prince I An (Byeon Woo Seok)
While visiting Hui Ju, who was being treated in the hospital after a traffic accident, Min accidentally overheard a conversation between Hui Ju and her personal assistant. The assistant asked Hui Ju to reconsider the plan for a contract marriage with Crown Prince I-an, because Hui Ju had frequently experienced terrible incidents following the official announcement of her relationship with the Crown Prince. The assistant also felt that Hui Ju and I An were taking their roles as a couple too seriously, even though they were set to divorce after three years.
Hearing that conversation, Min was utterly shocked. She hadn’t expected that Hui Ju-I An’s relationship was merely a matter of convenience. After all, Hui Ju had previously assured her that she was truly in a sincere romantic relationship with the Crown Prince.
Upon hearing the reason behind Hui Ju-I An’s marriage plans, Min decided to propose to her
After her secret was exposed, Hui Ju was forced to reveal the reason behind the marriage contract. She admitted she wanted to gain status through her marriage to the Crown Prince. For Hui Ju, she already had everything—except status. With her intelligent and ambitious nature, Hui Ju felt she could obtain the one thing she still lacked.
Upon hearing Hui Ju’s reason, Prime Minister Min offered himself as a husband. As Prime Minister, he could also elevate Seong Hui Ju’s status. Furthermore, marrying him was considered safer than marrying into the royal family. According to Min, Hui Ju would be risking her life if she chose to deal with the royal family.
Seong Hui Ju rejected Prime Minister Min’s proposal. Hui Ju felt that I An better met the criteria for the husband she was looking for
Amid the shock over Prime Minister Min’s proposal, Hui Ju turned him down. Although they had a close relationship, Hui Ju felt that Min wasn’t the right person to enter into a contract marriage with. For Hui Ju, she wanted to elevate her status without damaging her contractual partner’s reputation. Therefore, the Grand Prince was the right person to partner with. Even if Hui Ju caused chaos in the future, I An would retain his noble status for the rest of his life.
Hui Ju also expressed her support for Min, her senior, to return to the position of Prime Minister in the next term. For that reason, she couldn’t let Min get caught up in a domestic scandal.
So, will Min immediately accept this rejection? Or will the fact of Hui Ju and I An’s contractual marriage make him feel he has a chance to marry the woman he loves? Find out the answer in the next episode of Perfect Crown!
