Harry Potter: Cillian Murphy breaks his silence on the casting of Voldemort, and it will disappoint you

After months of speculation, rumors, and so on and so forth, the person concerned has finally come forward. Cillian Murphy, the decorated actor fresh from an Oscar win for Oppenheimer, has spoken out about the much-discussed casting in the highly anticipated HBO series on Harry Potter.

For months, his name has been circulating online alongside that of Voldemort. According to many, the involvement of the 28 Days Later star in the show, playing the iconic villain, would be a perfect choice. Furthermore, the confirmation that Voldemort will appear in the first season in a flashback of the death of James and Lily Potter has given fans hope, eager to find out who will play the iconic nemesis of the Wizarding World. During a recent interview with The Times, the Irish actor spoke out about his alleged role in Harry Potter:

“I will not be playing Voldemort. I categorically rule it out,” thundered the actor: “Can you put that in the headline?” he emphasized, confirming that Murphy probably wants to clarify his position once and for all. In short, a confirmation/denial that we will not see Murphy on the small screen again. This comes as no surprise: we are talking about a TV series that, with a few rare exceptions, does not boast big names, the so-called “A-list actors.” We are talking about a commitment that will keep the actors busy for probably almost a decade.

In the book series, Lord Voldemort is a dark wizard initially known as Tom Morvolo Riddle. Obsessed with immortality, he aspires to become the ruler of the Wizarding World. To achieve his goal, Voldemort kills and tortures anyone who stands in his way, building an army of trusted servants over the years. Among Voldemort’s most sensational actions, in addition to killing Harry Potter’s parents, is the creation of the Horcruxes. These objects contain a piece of his soul, allowing him to be immortal for a limited period of time.
