Cinemas are gearing up for the premiere of a highly anticipated sequel: ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ hits the big screen on April 1. Its predecessor, ‘Super Mario Bros.: The Movie,’ was the second highest-grossing feature film of 2023, earning $1.36 billion. The production companies have released the latest trailer and announced a new star signing. The final trailer for ‘Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie’ contains all the ingredients of the previous film and also some of the essence of the video game. The frenetic pace, the most iconic characters, and the display of powers and images make an impact ahead of this eagerly awaited premiere.
In it, we delve into many different worlds: water, fire, and technology at the service of Mario and his friends’ adventure. Mini Bowser is the protagonists’ first enemy, who comes to rescue his father after Mario and Luigi captured him at the end of ‘Super Mario Bros: The Movie’. Others include the Honey Bee, Kamek, and Wart, as well as the army of Koopas that Bowser seems to lead, once freed by his son. To face all these dangers on the different planets we will see in the film, the plumber brothers need the help of the indispensable Princess Peach, as well as Toad, Yoshi, and a very special addition: Princess Estela, whom we see throwing powerful stars in this latest trailer.
This intrepid galactic adventure celebrates the 40th anniversary of the video game, which will be in 2026. Michael Jelenic and Aaron Horvath direct the feature film, which once again features the voices of Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. These and many more, April 1 in theaters.
Donald Glover joins the cast
Donald Glover has joined the cast to voice the dinosaur/steed Yoshi, on whose back we see Mario in the trailer. We know that Yoshi doesn’t usually have much dialogue, beyond the occasional “Yoshi!”. The actor is also a singer, director, screenwriter, and producer. He is behind and in front of the cameras for the series Mr. and Mrs. Smith, as well as providing the voice of Simba in the live-action version of The Lion King. Joining him are new voices Brie Larson as Estela and Benny Safdie as Mini Bowser.
