The gothic universe of Wednesday continues to expand, and as the third season officially enters production, details emerge that make the wait even more electric. After the almost surprise announcement of Eva Green joining the cast, filming has begun in Ireland and the mosaic of new characters is beginning to take shape more clearly. The new season will see the arrival of several familiar faces: Chris Sarandon, remembered for films such as Dog Day Afternoon and The Princess Bride, will play Balthazar; alongside him will be Noah Taylor as Cyrus, Oscar Morgan as Atticus, and Kennedy Moyer as Daisy.
According to the first promotional materials, this group of new additions will bring with them an even denser web of family secrets and mysteries linked to the Addams mythology. Among the most talked-about and surprising additions is Winona Ryder, announced as a guest star in the role of Tabitha, a presence that symbolically brings together two generations of gothic imagery and reinforces the connection with the dark aesthetic so dear to executive producer Tim Burton. Eva Green, on the other hand, will play Ophelia Frump, Morticia’s sister, a character already evoked in the family universe but never explored in such a central way in the dark universe of the Addams Family.
The now iconic faces of the series will naturally return: Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, and Luis Guzmán as Gomez, along with most of the cast associated with Nevermore Academy. A video released to announce the start of filming features Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Isaac Ordonez, Joanna Lumley, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mustafa, Victor Dorobantu, Fred Armisen, Billie Piper, and Hunter Doohan, among others, gathered in a deliberately macabre atmosphere that plays with symbols, initials, and clues scattered on the characters’ place cards.
It is precisely these details that have sparked fan theories: the initials above the names, N for Nevermore students, A for direct members of the Addams family, F for the Frumps, seem to suggest new alliances and possible rifts, while the appearance of the name Balthazar refers to a figure already present in the Addams family tree, the cousin of the same name who, according to tradition, died before Gomez and Morticia met. This element raises interesting narrative questions, as do the mysterious black bottle shown in the teaser and the question mark next to a second unidentified object.
The second season, released in two parts in 2025, cemented the series’ global success, which remains one of the most-watched English-language titles in Netflix history, fueling huge expectations for the next chapter. The finale left several narrative threads unresolved: the revelation about Aunt Ophelia in Grandma Hester’s basement, Enid’s transformation into an alpha wolf during the full moon, and Isadora Capri’s proposal to Tyler to join a group of Hydes are just some of the plot points destined to be developed.
The third season, which according to rumors could be the final installment of the series, will pick up right where these unresolved issues left off, promising an even darker and more unique story for one of Netflix’s most successful series.
