The first trailer for ‘Scary Movie 6’ has been officially released after the preview circulated on the internet last weekend, following its debut in theaters during the premiere of ‘Scream 7’. The two-minute preview has been used to its fullest potential, with references to more than 15 different films.
It had already been confirmed that the film would parody some of the most talked-about hits in contemporary horror cinema, such as ‘The Sinners’, ‘Weapons’ and ‘Terrifier 3’. These three titles have all been included in the trailer, which mentions the appearance of vampires on the estate in Ryan Coogler’s film and the entrance of Miles Caton‘s character into the church; the characteristic running style of the children in the film directed by Zach Cregger, as well as the time shown on the digital clock (2:17), and the unconventional Santa Claus from Damien Leone’s saga.
The Wayans brothers have combined several feature films in the first scene of the trailer (a sequence that references what happened to Mindy Meeks-Martin in ‘Scream VI’), which takes place in a subway car where some of the most famous killers in horror history meet, such as Leatherface from ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’; Michael Myers from Halloween; Chucky from Child’s Play; Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th; and Pennywise from It. The doll from M3GAN joins the spectacle by performing her famous dance, which ends with her removing her mask and revealing the face of Ghostface, who confronts and stabs one of the passengers.
This is just the beginning of the trailer, which continues with more references. The iconic killer from Scream greets “Martes,” a dark-haired girl with braids who references Jenna Ortega’s “Wednesday.” Anna Faris makes her return to the franchise, reminding us of Laurie Strode from Halloween, while maintaining her original character, and Regina Hall does the same with Brenda, whose haircut is reminiscent of Octavia Spencer’s in Ma’s Basement. They haven’t forgotten one of the most memorable horror films of recent years, Get Out, and have included Marlon Wayans’ character Shorty sinking into the armchair that emulates Daniel Kaluuya’s.
The controversial The Stuff also got its share of attention with a scene filmed in a white room featuring a green liquid renamed “The Stuff,” and Faris starred in a nod to Smile, knocking a man down with a toilet bowl while shouting, “Don’t smile, a**hole!” ‘Longlegs’ also had a moment on screen, with a character resembling Nicolas Cage’s killer. In addition, the parody included a reference to the 2023 Oscar winner for Best Picture, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, through a sequence alluding to the fight that takes place in the film, replacing the objects in the original with sex toys.
Not suitable for “sensitive viewers”

The trailer for Scary Movie 6 even includes some references (or jibes) at “modern” and inclusive language, with the last line of the trailer being: “Dum**ss! We’re just chilling here. You do your thing, I’m gonna stay here with my chicken teriyaki, hanging out with my friends. You get it?“ Not even Rosalía and her hit song ”Motomami” have been spared. From this first preview, it seems that creators Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans weren’t joking when they said that this new installment “would have no limits.” With Rick Alvarez writing the script and Michael Tiddes at the helm, we may be looking at the “most ‘Scary Movie’” installment since the first films in the series.
The cast appeals to nostalgia, with the return of important characters. Alongside Faris and Hall, the Wayans brothers, Lochlyn Munro, Dave Sheridan, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, and Jon Abrahams are also back. Other new additions to the franchise include Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans, and Heidi Gardner. The film hits theaters on June 12: let’s see what other surprises it has in store.
