The question that all Bridgerton fans are asking themselves is now inevitable. Who will be the protagonist of the fifth season? Eloise or Francesca? After some unexpected narrative choices in previous seasons, Netflix has shown that it does not want to follow the order of Julia Quinn’s novels to the letter, and this makes the previews even more exciting. In the third season, for example, instead of telling Benedict’s story, which would have been faithful to the third book, the show preferred to follow the story of Colin and Penelope, taken from the fourth volume.

Netflix has not yet revealed who will lead season five, but showrunner Jess Brownell has confirmed that seasons five and six will be dedicated to Eloise and Francesca, although she did not specify the order. The fifth book, To Sir Phillip, With Love, tells the story of Eloise and her love for Sir Phillip Crane. The sixth, When He Was Wicked, follows Francesca and her connection with Michael, cousin of her late husband John, who was transformed into Michaela in the television series.
This change in perspective and adaptation leaves many possibilities open, both for romantic dynamics and character development, and fans are eager to see how the series will interpret these key moments. The showrunner also explained how the series is gradually giving more space to the younger siblings, such as Hyacinth, who already played a prominent role in many moments in the fourth season. “Each season allows us to get to know the younger characters better and bring them into the heart of the story,” said Brownell, emphasizing how important it is for the creative team to develop each character in a consistent manner.
As for the release date of the fifth season, the series has always respected an interval of about two years, but Brownell hinted that this time there could be a slight acceleration. “If all goes according to plan, season five could arrive sooner than expected, still respecting a timeline of a year and a half,” said the showrunner. Although plot details are still under wraps, the promise is clear: season five will be “super romantic,” with new love stories and situations that will showcase the Bridgerton sisters in an intense way. In the meantime, fans can reread the novels or rewatch previous seasons, preparing to find out which of Eloise and Francesca will win the hearts of viewers.
