The ‘God of War’ series is progressing at a good pace, preparing for a premiere date that has yet to be announced. On February 25, another member of the cast was added: Ed Skrein as Baldur, son of Odin. Although the main characters will be Kratos and Atreus, Prime Video has already released the first image. As we know, God of War will focus on the father-son relationship between the warrior Kratos, played by Ryan Hurst, and his son Atreus, played by young actor Callum Vinson.
In the first snapshot of the series, we see them both dressed in furs, with Kratos sporting the usual red lines marking his entire body. Kratos appears to be teaching little Atreus how to shoot a bow in what could be a Nordic forest, typical of the game’s photography. Reactions from fans of the video game have been quick to arrive and are noticeable on social networks such as X (Twitter). In general, fans of ‘God of War’ have responded enthusiastically and excitedly, highlighting the more than reasonable resemblance of the actors to the original characters.
However, others do not share this positive view and are skeptical for various reasons. Many point out that the image looks like it was created by AI, and some even dare to present their own proposals, convinced that they can improve on the one presented by Prime Video.
We’ll have to wait and see what Prime Video surprises us with after this eventful first preview of God of War. Despite the doubts of some, the production is shaping up to be a big premiere, especially given the success of David Jaffe’s video games. Two seasons have already been confirmed for the series, even before the reception of the first one has been gauged.
The Olympus of video games
Since its launch in 2005, the God of War video games have been a complete success in this field. In 2026, the saga reached its 13th installment and is already preparing another one for release soon. The Amazon MGM Studios series is inspired by two specific games: God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok (2022). In addition to focusing on Kratos and Atreus, the plot is set within Greek mythology, featuring characters such as Baldur (Ed Skrein) and Heimdall (Max Parker), sons of Odin, and Sif (Teresa Palmer), wife of Thor. Prime Video is preparing us for Kratos and Atreus’ journey: “Father and son. They begin their journey to the highest peak.”
