Immediately after the announcement of the 2026 Oscar nominations, all movie buffs are talking about a record: Pecadores received a sensational 16 nominations, two more than The Evil Dead, Titanic, and La La Land, and therefore more than any other film in the history of the most prestigious award in world cinema. But other notable records were also broken—including one by Emma Stone.
For Bugonia, she received two nominations. Stone is once again competing for the Oscar for Best Actress. But as a producer of the science fiction satire, she can also celebrate a nomination for Best Picture. With her previous nominations as an actress for Birdman, La La Land, The Favourite, and Poor Creatures—in addition to the Best Picture nomination as producer of the latter—Emma is the youngest woman in Hollywood history to achieve seven nominations.
Emma Stone breaks Meryl Streep’s record
Stone achieved this milestone at the age of 37. The previous record belonged to Meryl Streep: when she received her seventh Oscar nomination (out of a total of 21) for Ironweed in 1988, she was 38 years old. Incidentally, Meryl has already won three Oscars. Stone has already won two, so she may soon catch up with her colleague in this regard as well. Then she would be part of a very exclusive club, as only three actresses have won at least three Oscars. In addition to Streep, Frances McDormand and Katharine Hepburn have also achieved this feat—Hepburn even won four of the coveted golden statuettes.
Only Walt Disney before Stone
The two nominations for Bugonia also make Emma Stone the second youngest person in film history with seven Oscar nominations. Only one of Hollywood’s greatest legends was younger when he reached this milestone: Walt Disney.
He was only 34 when he received two Oscar nominations for Best Animated Short Film in 1936, marking his sixth and seventh nominations. Disney had the distinct advantage of dominating the category for many years (sometimes with four nominations in a single year). With a total of 59 nominations, the legendary animator and producer may very well hold the record for the most nominations by a single individual for all eternity!
