Forget Sansa Stark. Judging by the new photos from the set, Sophie Turner seems to be drawing more inspiration from Rambo than from her past roles for the new version of Lara Croft, who will star in the Tomb Raider series in production for Prime Video. Produced by Amazon MGM, the series will feature a less sexy and more combative Lara Croft, as her interpreter has revealed. And the photos and videos from the set seem to confirm this theory.
What do the photos and videos from the Tomb Raider set show?
Based on the popular video game saga that launched the character of Lara Croft, transforming her into one of the most popular female icons, the Prime Video series will show a gritty and brutal Lara Croft. In the photos released by the Daily Mail, we see Sophie Turner filming in an isolated forest, engaging in intense and physically demanding scenes.
Describing the sequences in question, the website mentions “dramatic knife fight scenes and a frantic escape on a motorcycle driven by her co-star Martin Bobb-Semple,” who plays Zip, a character much loved by fans of the video game. Zip is hired by Lara as her trusted technical support and close ally to assist her in her dangerous endeavors.
Sophie Turner’s physical preparation to become Lara Croft
To be credible in the role of the heroic archaeologist and adventurer, succeeding Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who played her before her on the big screen, Sophie Turner underwent intense physical preparation.
“I can’t reveal too much, but my preparation began in February 2025. I’ve been training for a long time now, almost a year, and we’ll start filming in January,“ she told ScreenRant. ”I’m really excited, but I also feel prepared, and I’m really lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon. I can’t wait for the world to see what we’re going to do with Lara and Tomb Raider. I think it’s going to be something special.” The actress went into detail during an appearance on The Julia Cunningham Show, describing her training
“We’ve been training eight hours a day, five days a week, since February of last year. Yes, it’s a lot. I discovered I have a chronic back problem, but I also realized that it’s much easier to build muscle mass if you have a history of training, which I never had, so it took me months and months to get into good shape.”
When will the Tomb Raider TV series be released on Prime Video?
Written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the upcoming series will show a strong, authentic, and non-sexualized Lara Croft grappling with a series of journeys around the world in search of ancient artifacts. The show also stars Sigourney Weaver, who will play a new character named Evelyn Wallis, described in a press release as “a mysterious and ambitious woman, eager to exploit Lara’s talents,” and former Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs as the British archaeologist’s uncle, Atlas DeMornay.
The series, which will include some of the most beloved characters from the video games, including Lara Croft’s butler, Winston (Bill Patterson), and Croft’s tech-savvy friend, Zip (Martin Bobb-Semple), will land on Prime Video in 2027.
