SPOILER ALERT. The lines between her demanding reality and her digital romance blur for Seo Mi-rae (Jisoo), a webcomic producer, in “Boyfriend on Demand” (“Wolgannamchin” in its original language). After a romantic disappointment, she is focused on her work and has become accustomed to a life without love, but after trying an app that allows you to have perfect dates in a virtual world, everything changes. While she is enchanted by this fictional world, she fails to notice that the man of her dreams is in the real world. So, what happens to the protagonist of the Netflix Korean series?
After a producer resigns, director Hwang looks for someone to work with the company’s most important writer. Seo Mi-rae, like her colleague Park Kyeong-nam (Seo In-guk), tries hard not to take on the project because Yun Song (Gong Min-jeung) is a very complicated artist. Because Mi-rae has worked with her in the past, she has no choice but to accept the assignment.
Although Yun Song’s webtoon is number one, it receives a lot of criticism and the author disappears at the slightest crisis. But it’s not all bad news. The protagonist of the famous webcomic is part of the virtual world of “Boyfriend on Demand,” so promoter Min Jun-young offers the protagonist the chance to try out the product for a while and share her reviews. Mi-rae has her doubts, but eventually enters that world and is amazed.
What happened at the end of “Boyfriend on Demand”?

In fact, her dates with the webtoon’s protagonist help her change her perspective on romance and allow her to give Yun Song ideas for improving the next issue. When her fictional story gets interesting, she is forced to return to reality because she cannot spend more than 50 hours with the same character. For a while, she refuses to go on other dates, but Min Jun-young encourages her to take advantage of her free trial period. Mi-rae’s second date takes place on a college campus. Eun-ho steals her heart, but the setting and certain situations remind her of her first love, who left her because of his stressful job and is now planning to marry another woman.
Before the romance can reach the next level, the free trial of “Boyfriend on Demand” ends, and the protagonist must return to the real world. Due to Director Hwang’s decision to have his best authors, Yun Song and Hwany, publish on the same day and compete, Mi-rae deals with moments of stress and her rivalry with Park Kyeong-nam intensifies. However, the reality is that Park is in love with Mi-rae and only shows indifference because he doesn’t know how to approach her, and the times he has tried, it hasn’t turned out as he expected.
When he finally plucks up the courage to confess his feelings, Mi-rae is very surprised and tries to avoid him at the office. While they are in the cafeteria, she rejects him and tells him she has a boyfriend. In a way, it’s not a lie because the protagonist decided to subscribe to the app and reconnected with Eun-ho in another setting. Everything is wonderful in the virtual world until Mi-rae realizes that thousands of women are experiencing the same thing she is with her virtual boyfriend. She decides to leave the app, but it suggests that she create an exclusive “boyfriend” who fits her preferences.
What does the end of “Boyfriend on Demand” MEAN?

What happened to Mi-rae and Park?
After answering several questions about her preferences, “Boyfriend on Demand” introduces her to her ideal boyfriend. What she sees scares Mi-rae, as he looks just like Park Kyeong-nam, except without glasses, with red hair, and his name is Gu Yeong-il. From that moment on, she begins to question whether Park is her perfect man. It takes her some time to accept the idea, but eventually she does.
The problem is that Park believes Mi-rae prefers to avoid him and even invented a boyfriend so he wouldn’t insist on his feelings again. When the protagonist tells him the truth and apologizes, Park decides to stop pretending to be indifferent and starts doing nice things for her. When things seem to be going well, despite Mi-rae’s doubts, Park discovers the protagonist’s secret. This, coupled with a series of misunderstandings and confusing messages, causes them to drift apart and Mi-rae to seek refuge in the virtual world, where she tells Gu Yeong-il about her fears (of falling in love again and getting hurt).
Hwany points out to Park that Mi-rae actually loves him and not his virtual version. Finally, he decides to look for his beloved and declare his love for her. The couple tries to keep their romance a secret, but this causes an accident. When they are ready to tell everyone, no one in the office believes it is possible. However, the protagonists of “Boyfriend on Demand” have a happy ending.
