Rumors continue to swirl about the next James Bond, set to star in the highly anticipated new film in the 007 saga directed by Denis Villeneuve: the names on everyone’s lips are Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner, and in the last few hours, the latter has broken his silence on the rumors.
During the Berlin Film Festival, the star was asked about this rumor during the press conference for his latest film, Rosebush Pruning, and although he refused to comment, his response could be very significant: “It’s too early for that question,” said Callum Turner. “I’m not going to comment.” At that point, his co-star Tracy Letts jokingly interrupted: “Sorry… I’m the next James Bond!”
The fact that Callum Turner says it is ‘still too early’ to talk about the matter may mean that the actor has indeed been in contact with Denis Villeneuve and the James Bond producers, but that he is currently prohibited from commenting on it publicly. We’ll have to wait and see. The 35-year-old actor has appeared in numerous British TV series and films, but is probably best known to the general public for playing Theseus, Newt Scamander’s brother, in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and its sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Callum Turner can currently be seen starring alongside Miles Teller and Elizabeth Olsen in the romantic fantasy Eternity, and after Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks’ acclaimed TV series Masters of the Air, he will return to Apple TV with the highly anticipated TV series Neuromancer, based on William Gibson’s cyberpunk masterpiece.
Returning to James Bond, last summer we learned that Denis Villeneuve (Dune, Blade Runner 2049) has officially signed on to direct the next 007 film, which will be written by acclaimed screenwriter Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, Taboo, Locke, The Killer’s Promise): work is expected to begin once Villeneuve has completed Dune: Part 3, which will be released on December 18, 2026, meaning that by the end of this year we may finally find out who will be the next James Bond after Daniel Craig.
We’ll keep you posted…
