With less than a month to go before the premiere of ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’, Netflix has shared a new trailer for the film, which continues the story of Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) after the end of the original ‘Peaky Blinders’ series. In the first preview released by the platform on Christmas Eve, we got a glimpse of the new additions to its universe, but this new trailer shares some particularly revealing information: the identity of Barry Keoghan’s character.
Although we had already seen the BAFTA winner for The Banshees of Inisherin dressed in Peaky Blinders style, it was unknown that he would play none other than Tommy Shelby’s son. It seems that Keoghan’s character is wreaking havoc in Birmingham. As Ada Shelby, played by Sophie Rundle, tells her brother in the trailer: “Your son is leading the Peaky Blinders as if it were 1919.”
This would be the reason for the forced and unexpected return of the former leader of the gang. Thomas Shelby had been in self-imposed exile for eight years, away from criminal life. Now it is 1940, the height of World War II, and he will be forced to return to his old life to fight one last battle.
About ‘The Immortal Man’
The film is directed by Tom Harper and written by Steven Knight, creator of the original series. It promises to take us back to an England that is not quite as we remember it, but which will allow us to relive the essence and tone of the original series.
We will be reunited with old acquaintances, characters who were already present in the original, played by Stephen Graham (Hayden Stagg), Ned Dennehy (Charlie Strong), Packy Lee (Johnny Dogs), and Ian Peck (Curly), as well as the aforementioned Rundle. Needless to say, Murphy is back at the helm of the film, accompanied by his fictional son, Keoghan, and other new additions to the cast such as Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Jay Lycurgo.
The premiere of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is scheduled for March 6 in select theaters with limited screenings, and March 20 on Netflix, when it will become part of the platform’s global catalog.
The creators have already confirmed that this film will not be the end of the franchise, although it will conclude the original story. A series set in 1953 is already in the works, coming from Netflix and the BBC. It is an independent fiction series that will focus on a new generation of Shelbys and the reconstruction of Birmingham after World War II. Two seasons of six episodes have been confirmed, and it is rumored that filming could begin after the premiere of The Immortal Man, with Knight and Murphy behind the camera as executive producers.
