Synopsis of the Korean drama Boyfriend on Demand
Boyfriend on Demand (2026) tells the story of Seo Mi Rae (Jisoo), a webtoon producer who always puts romance last. However, everything changes after Seo Mi Rae starts dating virtual boyfriends on the Boyfriend on Demand app. One day, the Boyfriend on Demand app creates a special virtual boyfriend for Seo Mi Rae who has the face and personality of Park Kyeong Nam (Seo In Guk), her rival. Will Seo Mi Rae continue to be trapped in the dating app or start a relationship in the real world?
Jisoo’s acting is slow to heat up!
Jisoo’s acting as Seo Mi Rae is one of the aspects that viewers of Boyfriend on Demand (2026) are talking about. Honestly, when I watched the first episode, I did think that Jisoo’s acting was a bit off compared to her co-stars. However, as you watch episode after episode, you can enjoy her chemistry with Seo In Guk, Seo Kang Joon, Gong Min Jung, Ha Young, and Yoo In Na. Additionally, seeing Seo Mi Rae’s awkwardness when interacting with the stiff Park Kyeong Nam (Seo In Guk) in real life is also adorable!
Romanticizing virtual dating that could potentially disrupt real life
Boyfriend on Demand (2026) tells the story of a webtoon producer who is caught between the virtual world and reality because he is addicted to an AI (Artificial Intelligence)-based dating app. I agree that this drama romanticizes the issue, especially with the sweet scenes that Seo Mi Rae experiences when dating Choi Si Woo (Lee Soo Hyuk) and Seo Eun Ho (Seo Kang Joon). On the other hand, this drama also explicitly describes the impact that users of the Boyfriend on Demand app, such as Seo Mi Rae, will experience. She finds it difficult to distinguish between the virtual world and reality, and becomes too comfortable with the sweet relationships she has with characters on the dating app. Therefore, Seo Mi Rae needs time to realize that Park Kyeong Nam genuinely likes her.
