After a first season that won over plenty of crime-drama viewers, The Lowdown is finally coming back. The FX series from Sterlin Harjo returns with Ethan Hawke once again playing Lee Raybon, the stubborn Tulsa journalist who has a habit of getting himself into situations that are much bigger—and usually much more dangerous—than he expected. Judging from the Season 2 trailer, Lee hasn’t exactly learned to stay out of trouble.
Lee is a freelance journalist who spends his time digging into the corruption and secrets hiding underneath Tulsa’s polished surface. The work from Season 1 has given him a little more recognition, but being known for exposing powerful people isn’t necessarily the safest career move. In the new season, Lee finds himself pulled into another investigation when Ginger, a controversial lawyer, asks him to look into the mysterious disappearance of one of her clients from a state penitentiary.
Lee Raybon’s New Investigation Takes Him Into Tulsa’s Power Circles
What starts as a missing-person case quickly turns into something much larger. Lee’s investigation leads him toward some of Tulsa’s richest and most influential people, opening up another mess of money, power and corruption. And, naturally, Lee doesn’t seem particularly interested in backing away once he realizes how deep things go.
The second season is also giving Lee a problem that has nothing to do with his journalism. Tommy Lee Jones joins the cast as Lee Raybon Senior, Lee’s estranged father and a longtime con artist. The two haven’t had contact in years, so his sudden appearance is already enough to shake things up. There’s an even bigger complication, though: Lee has always told his daughter, Francis, that her grandfather was dead.
So yes, Lee is dealing with a dangerous investigation while also having to explain to his daughter that the grandfather she thought was dead is actually very much alive. That’s going to be an awkward conversation.
Tommy Lee Jones Joins Ethan Hawke in Season 2
Season 2 will run for eight episodes and once again comes from creator Sterlin Harjo, who serves as executive producer alongside Garrett Basch, Ethan Hawke, Ryan Hawke, Scott Teems and Duffy Boudreau. The show is keeping much of its returning cast while adding Jones in what sounds like a particularly important role for Lee’s personal story.
Hawke returns as Lee Raybon, with Tommy Lee Jones playing Lee’s father and Betty Gilpin returning as Ginger. Keith David, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kaniehtiio Horn, Rafael Casal and Michael Hitchcock are also back for the new episodes. With that group returning, the series doesn’t look like it’s trying to reinvent itself completely. Instead, Season 2 seems to be taking the characters established in the first season and dropping them into an even messier situation.
The first two episodes of The Lowdown Season 2 are scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on October 14, 2026. After everything Lee got himself into the first time around, it probably isn’t a great sign that he’s already chasing another mystery.
