It looks like Peter Sutherland‘s vacation will be much shorter than he expected. With the third season still reaping rewards and dominating global charts this March 2026, Netflix wasted no time in officially renewing The Night Agent for its fourth year. Coming off an epic mission in Season 3 (read our review) that took him around the world — chasing stolen financial intelligence and unraveling complex conspiracies — Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) will soon return for a thrilling new mission, as seen in the video below:
Series creator, executive producer, and showrunner Shawn Ryan said in an interview with Tudum:
It’s been a crazy journey filming The Night Agent in five countries across three continents… and we’re so excited that Peter Sutherland’s adventures will continue in Season 4. Our writers, cast, and crew are ready to answer the call to bring our incredible fans even more twists, turns, and thrills.
The hook for the next mission
For those who binge-watched the third season, the finale left a clear clue as to what is to come. Peter expressed to his boss, Agent Aiden Mosley (Albert Jones), his desire to finally take some time off. However, Mosley planted the seed for a new chapter by mentioning that he already has a candidate in mind to be Peter’s new partner. According to the showrunner, this tease was specifically planned as a “launching pad” for season 4. The mystery of who this new ally — or allies — will be is sure to fuel fan discussions in the coming months.
Impressive numbers
The show’s success with audiences justifies the speed of its renewal. The series has become a ratings mainstay for Netflix:
Season 1: Released in 2023, it remains firmly in the platform’s Top 10 most popular series of all time.
Season 2: Debuted directly in 1st place, with almost 14 million views in less than a week.
Season 3: Currently in 2nd place among English-language series, maintaining an average of 9.9 million weekly views.
New base of operations: Los Angeles
A major change for the fourth year is the production location. Filming for The Night Agent is now moving to Los Angeles, joining an elite group of Netflix productions that are taking over the city’s studios. Peter Sutherland now shares the “workspace” with productions such as the second season of TRETA, the fourth season of Monster, and Ben Affleck’s new film, Animals. The move to Los Angeles may indicate a plot more focused on conspiracies within American soil, contrasting with the international scale of the previous season.
So, who’s excited to see Peter’s new saga?
