Neon Genesis Evangelion is a hugely popular anime directed by Hideaki Anno that first aired in 1995. Two years later, a film titled The End of Evangelion was released, concluding the original story. However, four new films were subsequently announced that would retell the story. The last one was released in 2021, and it seemed that would be the end of it all. However, it was recently announced that there will be more from this universe.
What is known about the new Evangelion anime?

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this legendary work, a big event was organized in Yokohama last weekend. A 13-minute animated short starring Asuka was shown, but no one could have imagined the announcement they had in store.
According to the official Evangelion website and social media accounts, this legendary anime will have a new series project. This hasn’t happened since the last episode aired in 1996, as all subsequent projects were films that expanded further on this universe. Production on the new series has already begun and will feature big names in the script and direction.
Who will be behind the project?

The most important name that appears is Yoko Taro, director and screenwriter behind NieR: Automata. This unique author will be responsible for writing the scripts for the new Evangelion anime. Kazuya Tsurumaki will direct the project, as he did with the Rebuild films in recent years. Keiichi Okabe, who also worked on the NieR franchise, will be in charge of the music.
In addition, this new Evangelion series will be a co-production between Studio Khara, founded by Hideaki Anno, which animated the Rebuild films, and Studio CloverWorks, which was behind hits such as Spy x Family and The Nobility of Flowers.
What happened to the new Evangelion short film?

As we mentioned, during the event, a short film was released focusing on the character of Asuka, who seeks a better ending for herself than those shown in previous projects. To that end, both her version of the series and the Rebuild version try out different universes to find the happiest ending for the protagonist. This material was exclusive to those attending the festival, but one of the attendees recorded it and uploaded it to the internet.
As a result, the event organizers took action and prohibited the sharing of photos or videos of the short film. “It is prohibited to republish, share, or distribute such content without permission on social media or other platforms. Violators may be subject to legal liability,” they warned on their social media accounts.
