2026 will be packed with blockbuster films that promise to take viewers on unprecedented cinematic journeys and offer innovative viewing experiences. A passionate review has just been published of what has been described as the first masterpiece of the year. We are talking about the new sci-fi film Project Hail Mary, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and starring Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling. Although the film is still a month away from release, the first verdict has already arrived, written on social media by none other than Frozen and Wonder Man actor Josh Gad.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the first masterpiece of 2026,” the star wrote on Instagram in a post showing a movie theater where Project Hail Mary had just been screened. “I don’t know how the hell they did it, but Phil Lord and Chris Mille, screenwriter Drew Goddard, and producer Aditya Sood, along with Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Conner, have made a PERFECT adaptation of a book I thought was impossible to adapt. Andy Weir’s novel is one of my all-time favorites, and the movie somehow matches it perfectly. See this Amazon MGM Studios film on the biggest screen possible. Ryan Gosling has never been better. I can’t wait to see this film again. It will restore your faith in humanity and the power of love and courage.”
In Project Hail Mary, Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace, an astronaut who wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of his life or the purpose of his mission. The sole survivor of a mission to save Earth from a catastrophic event that is extinguishing the sun, he teams up with an alien named Rocky who shares his goal.
Lord and Miller are known for directing 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie, as well as writing and producing the acclaimed animated films Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Goddard, screenwriter of Project Hail Mary, previously adapted another Weir novel, The Martian, into the famous and acclaimed film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon, which received seven Oscar nominations.
Project Hail Mary will hit theaters on March 19.
