In recent weeks, during the usual promotional interviews, creator Robert Kirkman had teased the most violent scene ever for Invincible Season 4, and after watching the finale of the season’s fifth episode, there’s no doubt that this was exactly the sequence he was referring to… Despite its cartoonish and colorful appearance, Invincible is, to all intents and purposes, an animated superhero series for adults—and episode 5 of season 4 proved this abundantly.

In the fifth episode of the new season, titled “Give Us A Moment,” we saw Conquest (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), fresh off his escape, ambush Mark (Steven Yeun) and his companions aboard a Viltrumite cruiser. Naturally, this immediately leads to an epic rematch following the brutal clash that ended the previous season, and, well, things quickly turn bloody.
In the final stages of the battle, in fact, while Invincible is determined to stop Conquest from breathing by clamping his hands around his throat with all his might to suffocate and kill him once and for all, Conquest pierces Mark with his hand and literally guts him—beginning to pull out his intestines to force him to release his grip on his throat. However, thanks to his regenerative powers, Mark neither dies nor loses consciousness; he manages to maintain his grip on his opponent’s throat and kills him once and for all… but it is a literal Pyrrhic victory, since shortly afterward Omniman and Oliver find Mark disemboweled and dying, asking for help in a faint whisper.
Yes, it makes us sick just to write these words and remember what we saw during the episode… so it’s no surprise that Invincible fans’ reactions on social media are one of utter shock.
“Oh my God, this was the most brutal scene everyone was talking about… Conquest literally ripped Mark’s intestines out, and it’s disgusting to watch,” commented a disgusted viewer on X, while another added: “That episode of Invincible was HORRIBLE.” And again: “This fight between Invincible and Conquest was absolutely insane! One of the most intense fight scenes I’ve ever seen. The animation is WOW.” And again: “The voice acting was amazing too! Seriously, how the hell does Mark survive?” A fifth comment reads: “I’m surprised they kept the blood in that scene. I felt like throwing up when Conquest kept ripping Mark’s organs out. That fight was BRUTAL.”
In short, after the fourth episode of Invincible 4 had somewhat disappointed fans’ expectations, the series has not only gotten back on track but has even reached the peak of its quality: what do you think? Let us know in the comments section!
